Drug Addiction

Using prohibited drugs is one of the biggest concerns in the society at present. It is very common among teenagers to engage such activity. Drug addiction could simply mean that a person is in need of a drug in order for him or her to function normally or to portray things the way he or she wanted it to be. regardless of the knowledge that these drugs brings many negative effects, there is still the compulsion to use the substance. There are variety of reasons why people continue to use these dangerous substances. The exact reason or cause of drug abuse and dependence is not yet known. However, different possible causes of drug dependence has already been studied. The genes of the individual is considered to be a possible cause;, it will happen when a person has a high tolerance of drugs and become dependent with it to the extent that he or she will not be contented with just a small amount of the substance. Another cause is due to peer pressure that takes place in every society. Peer pressures may show the way to substance in take. Emotional problem can also be a possible cause. People who are in distress, anxious and depress may resort to take drugs as their means of coping up for them to not remember the condition of emotional pain they presently feel. Lastly, the likelihood of environmental stress to happen when children grow up in a surrounding in which they can observe individuals who are illicitly utilizing prohibited drugs. These children might first observe their parents using drugs and later on in life their experiences at early years may put them at higher risk for developing an addiction. Also, it has been discovered that people who are more possible to abuse or become dependent on drugs are those who have easy access to drugs, low self esteem or those that come across problems with their current relationships, those who exist in a stressful lifestyle and for those individual who live in a culture wherein drug use is highly accepted.

Substances that are commonly use by different individuals of different age group, status and culture includes opiates, Central nervous system (CNS) stimulants, Central Nervous System (CNS) depressants, Hallucinogens and Tetrahydrocannabinol(THC). Opiates and narcotics are said to be powerful and effective painkillers that cause drowsiness. Heroin, opium, codeine, and oxycodone or oxycontin are examples of opiates and narcotics. Central nervous system depressants is comprise of barbiturates, benzodiazepines, chloral hydrate and paraldehyde. These central nervous system depressants gives off an anxiety reducing effect and can also act as a sedative. On the other hand, central nervous system (CNS) stimulants is comprise of amphetamines, cocaine, dextroamphetamine, methamphetamine, and methylphenidate or retalin. These drugs are said to have stimulating effect and as a result people can start needing higher amounts of these drugs in order for them to feel the same effect the same as what they feel at the first time they are using it. Hallucinogens include LSD, mescaline, psilocybin and phencyclidine or angel dust. From the word hallucinogens, the effects are quite obvious which is to make the users hallucinate.

There are different stages before one reaches the state drug addiction. Any person may use drugs which may not harm them but others who uses prohibited drugs and develop dependence may result to destruction. It has been observed that young people of today seem to surpass more quickly through the stages of drug dependence. The first stage occurs when an individual decides to try the illegal drug for the reason of peer pressure. The second stage happens when because of utilizing the substance, important events are being missed out. This certain stage would make the person to be preoccupied about the idea of losing drug source, uses drugs in order to get away with negative feelings and begins to mingle individuals who are regular drug users. Third stage is daily preoccupation. During this stage, the drug user loses motivation. He will not be in mind anymore on his surroundings and will lost interests on important matters. The lasts stage is the occurring of dependence. This will exist when a person cannot face daily life without drugs and losses control when it comes to drugs.

It is important to know that despite the negative consequences and the difficulty of getting out from drug addiction, there is still possibility for things to be alright. One must seek the right help in order to achieve it.

Drug addiction could merely indicate that a person needs a drug in order for him or her to function normally or to portray things the way he or she wanted it to be.
